CHOICES can be CRITICAL!
While it might be obvious to say “life is full of choices”, this tried and true saying certainly applies to the specialized world of METALS. One can choose “off the shelf” metal from wherever, or you can choose custom materiel with complete traceability, perhaps even designed or produced for a specific purpose.
The “off the shelf” materials may not conform to any specific requirements, and they may not be melted by an approved Mill with all the test reports and certifications necessary for some companies. Country of Origin may not be crucial, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. These products have proven themselves to be acceptable solutions to many applications and their advantages are quick availability, cost effectiveness and ease of transaction. Be assured, we can supply this material very competitively if that is what the customer needs.
Then there is the CUSTOM way. Simplistically, raw materials come from somewhere; whether they are mined, re-melted scrap material or altered material. The important issue is WHO the end customer is and WHAT are their requirements and needs. It is often mandatory that we know where the material was produced not who owns the rights to it (DFARS Compliant). Chemical compounds of many alloys can be critical to their application, therefore chemical analysis is of utmost importance. Test reports show exactly what specifications the material adheres to and what chemical properties determine its strength. Every piece may be slightly different and this can affect its performance, machinability and reliability. The advantage of this is getting it RIGHT the FIRST time which is cost effective.
